A new study was released today indicating that over the next five years, we will see an increased use because of the wide variety of capabilities, services, and pricing options available around the world. To that I would add that email-on-the-go gives us flexibility and added security as well.
It is interesting to note that we are witnessing a repeat of the same phenomena we saw with instant messaging and texting – where people prefer to type than actually talk in person – even though it takes longer. In my case, it provides a written record of not only what was said but is also searchable for that report you will need to make later.
It appears that the next stage of growth will be influenced by new input and access capabilities, and better integration across mobile and land-lines. These will include new touch screens, voice-to-text (check out Jott.com), and advanced keyboard designs – making it even easier to send a mobile message. My experience always shows that by making a product easier to use – it results in more people actually using it.
Also look for some very creative companies to find ways to incorporate advertising in mobile messaging.

Ease of use of emailing people from my mobile was the driving force I had in inventing a way for efficiently converting Voicemail to Text and launching SimulScribe. I agree that companies like Jott, SimulScribe and many others will continue to chip away at making the functionality and conversion to text communication much easier.
It is exciting to continually see that the overall market as shown in the study continue to favor what we have always felt was the right direction.
David thanks for the great post,
